Let me ask you a few questions today...Do we place too much value on sports? Are our sports heros worth all the attention and celebrity that is showered upon them? How does their behavior affect our children's behavior?
What do we have to do as a community for the adults to reconnect with our teens and young adults? It seems, not a day goes by without us reading about or hearing about one violent and tragic situation after another. This trend is not only evident in the crowded inner cities of America, we see a pattern of unfortunate tragedies unfolding in the, so called, heartland of the USA. Is doesn't appear to be merely a few scattered incidents of brutality and aggression here and there. Our teens seem to have come to the conclusion that violence is the only way to resolve their differences. Has fighting become an accepted means of communication in our society? Is there no social order? The reality is that we have a great dilemma on our hands and we have only ourselves to blame. We cannot expect from our children to do anything that we have not taught them. We as working adults have not managed to prevent violence and crime in our neighborhoods, in fact I would even say by our lack of community involvement we co-sign the drama in our society.
