Rafael Figueroa: What did this "Chip" mean to me? The unification of individuals who have seen too much of Kobe's 81 points in their game. Or too much of Allen Iverson's running game, running the ball from coast to coast for 40 minutes and 60 points. Those days are over and teams like that don't win championships anymore. Only a team effort can get you a "Chip." As I looked at everyone's faces after the game, full of pride, full of joy. Finally being recognized in front, for all to see, for that one moment we were the best there is. That feeling was gone after 30 minutes. After the pizza and beer, after the champagne in the locker room with our championship gear on. I felt an emptiness and I asked myself, "Is this all it is?" Is this all we receive after day in and day out of grinding on the court? Then I realized that this is not the championship that I longed for, even though it was a great one. I long for the New York Hotel League Championship Title. Then and only then can this thirst that I have be quenched. I'm thirsty and so is my team. So back to the grind, back to the gym, back to the basics, back to the 1, 2, 3, DEFENSE!! 4,5,6, HARDWORK!! Rafael Figueroa-Asst Coach Millennium B'way Hotel Wilson Lew: Our team "Trading Points" finally made it to the chip. After 2 sesaons of bouncing out in the semifinals we have a shot at the title this season. Players were so excited they forgot their sneakers and didn't even get a chance to step on to the court that night. The nucleus was there and no significant injuries were sited except for the fatugue from games all week and the weekend past. It was the end of the summer and all the playoffs and chips were going on for many players on the squad. The other team was a team that we faced in the regular season and we barely lost to. But tonight was a differewnt story, the more prepared and cohesive team won tonight; and it wasn't us. It was a slow start and we never really got started, missing easy shots while our opponents capitalized. This turned into a huge deficit for our team. We fought back hard but there was this one player that went on fire for like 6- 8 consecutive possessions during our rally, and therefore exinguished our chances of a comeback, we could not get past the 8 point hump. We would get close and player (Milt Plummer) would score, we would miss, he would score, etc. The other team controlled the boards throughout the game and our undersized team was left with no choice but to counter with outside jumpers, which for this night, the chip night of all nights, were not dropping. The better team that night won a well deserved and respected Championship. Congratulations to Smash All on a job well done, good game fellas and hope to see you guys next time around, we hope to be more prepared next time around Wilson Lew- Trading Points |
