GENESIS DEFEATS THE PISTONS 45-36......

by Charles DeJesus and Gabby Dejesus

...TO CLAIM 2006 MILLENNIUM BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP- THE DEJESUS CONNECTION TWO HOT TO HOLD

The GENESIS Basketball Team emerged as the 2006 MBA Champs, separating themselves from the field of four in the second year of the midtown NYC tournament.  The see-saw contest was a classic battle in the paint with Kem "Big Ben" Williams & Angel Cruz aka Cruz Control doing "overtime" playing D and securing rebounds for GENESIS. GENESIS took the early lead off the extremely poor ballhandling of the Pistons. However, the persistance of Hyacinth "Sky" Chiverton, Sixto "Bam" Mayi and Milton "KG" Plummer put the Pistons back into the game and all was tied [24-24] at the half-time break. In the second half, a few key defensive stops and an offensive spurt from newcomer Tim "Uptown" Barrett and after a house call from the Spanish Doc aka Ralph DeJesus the GENESIS team prevailed 45-36. AWOL-Missing from this years tournament was the 2005 Champs-THE BAMBINOS-Hopefuly we will see them return to the MBA scene next year.

FIRST ROUND TOURNAMENT NOTES: The Opening Round Heroics of Kem "Ma-Kem-Bo" Williams and Charles "Big Shot" DeJesus launch GENESIS into 2006 finals.  At the end of game one, [GENESIS vs OLD SCHOOL] Kem intercepts the full court pass by Tim Barrett and calls a critical timeout.  With less than 5 seconds on the regulation clock at the Chelsea Piers Courts and GENESIS down 3 [49-46] to the OLD SCHOOL. Charles DeJesus catches a perfect fastball pitch from Kem "The Rocket" Williams and drains a three pointer to send the contest into overtime.  Baskets by Vinny "Smooth" Santiago and Lahh Woods secure the OT win and the rest, as they say, is history.  [T-Barrett had about 30] No Big-Time Steal by Kem, No Big-Time Shot by Charles, No Big-Time Championship game for GENESIS in 2006.

AND NOW A WORD FROM THE CO-MVP'S-THE DEJESUS CONNECTION...........

Charles DeJesus Comments:

On the semifinal game..."This was the best that the team has ever played together.  Passing, shooting and running...We should have blown them out, but sloppy turnovers and fatigue set in along with Tim's determination to win.  Good competive game.

On the shot..."I was surprised that my man left me open to catch the inbound pass, thus giving me a real good look at the basket"

On the finals..."With the return of our superstar captain Ralph DeJesus this game was in the bag.  The adrenaline was lost because we really wanted the Bambinos -LOL."

Ralph DeJesus Comments:

Fresh off a Basketball City Championship and a second Championship in a row after winning the Millennium Broadway tournament(M.B.A. 2006) It has been a great 5 months, 3 straight Championships Most Vauliable Player of the N.Y.C. Hotel Basketball League even though we lost, for the first time ever the M.V.P. was on the losing team (Ralph "GABBY" De Jesus).  Then a second M.V.P. of the (M.B.A.) tournament which was very forfilling because it is a tournament among your peers, it makes it even  sweeter.

In all honesty it has been a great feeling too have, to still be able to Dominate at will.  The feeling  of contributing and being blessed with the oppritunity to re4live my sucesses in the sport of Basketball it is so incredible I have dedicated my time to getting back in shape so I could really give it 100% effort and see what I really could do because YES I am out of shape so beware because the ending of 06 and the beginning of 07 will be mine! So I apologize in advance Ralph De Jesus aka Boriqua, aka ALL DAY, aka GABBY, aka G. Boogie.
