Congratulations to the summer of 2005 NYDLBALL.com 3x3 Champions…the 15 PARK BALLERS, straight outta’ St. Albans, Queens. If you missed this summer’s games, you missed some heartbreaking classics! With the rainout of August 28, 2005 we picked things back up on Saturday September 10th with the semi-final playoffs match-up UFOMA (Peace) vs. The15 PARK BALLERS. UFOMA’s Bronx Legends [Lahh Woods, EZ-Eddie Woods, and Chip“Captain Sky”Adams played a fast-paced, physical game against the Queens crew. The 15 PARK BALLERS are Mike “Set-Shot” Allen, Jay “Slay” Princival, Dave“D-Rock”Romilus. The talented Queens Trio took home the “W” beating UFOMA 31-24 to advance to the 2005 Marcus Garvey 3x3 Finals. In the Championship game 15 PARK faced BANGED UP [Pistol Pete Lorens, Jermaine“Jump-Shot”Buchanon, Razi“The Rejector”Levine. BANGEDUP is a perimeter shooting team that who advanced to the finals by eliminating ADVANTAGE 1 [Charlie“Hat-Trick” Harris, Tim“The Hook”Barrett, and Ron “Rebound” Rogers] by the score of 31-30 on opening day. With only minutes to rest 15 PARK got back on the court to play for the gold!! BANGED UP proved to be just that when one of their key players was unable to play in “The Chip” due to a leg injury. Razi Levine was replaced by UFOMA’s Eddie Woods. It was a tight game full of old fashioned screens and new school 3 pointers. In the end, 15 PARK BALLERS were crowned 2005 Marcus Garvey 3x3 Champs by defeating BANGED UP by the score of 31-27. 2005 Marcus Garvey 3x3 All-Tournament Selections Mike Allen [15 PARK BALLERS] Jermaine Buchanon [BANGED UP] Charles Harris [ADVANTAGE ONE] Pete Lorens [BANGED UP] Jay Princival [15 PARK BALLERS] The NYDLBALL 3 Ball Contest took our best “Down Low”Ballers on a tour around the Motherland [3 point line] to test their long range skills, in 60 seconds to the sounds of music. Our 3 Ball Contest features 5 shooting stations around the 3 point arch [each corner, top of the key and the two ¾ positions], as a cd plays a mix of Old School Rap, Rock, R & B, or Latin favorites. With players from each participating team shooting, only the top three advanced to the final round. In the finals, Lahh Woods of Ufoma [Peace] hit 8 threes, Mike “Set-Shot” Allen [15 Park] hit an impressive 10 tre’s in 60 seconds. Jay Princival was crowned the Marcus Garvey 2005 3-Ball King when his performance was scored as 12 three-point buckets. HOWEVER!!! Controversy struck 3 days later in the unchallenged administrative review of the 2005 Garvey 3-Point Contest videotapes……..The videotapes revealed that Jay Princival did not score 12 baskets, as scored, during his final round, he actually dropped 10 baskets!! Laying the foundation for a Rubber Re-Match, 3 Point Playoff between Jay“Slay”Princival and his 15 PARK BALLERS team-mate Mike“Set-Shot”Allen. Stayed tuned for the details of the 3–Ball Tie-Breaker, when we will be able to properly crown our 2005 Garvey Games Chuck Person!! The 2005 Marcus Garvey Free-Throw Contest was a seat clincher!! Each of the 3x3 participants was allowed to shoot 10 free-throws, with the top 3 scores advancing to the finals. Visual distractions, fan support, and heavy trash-talking were permissible. Sorry, no profanity please. The finalist were Tim Barrett [7 of 10], Lahh Woods [8 of 10], Mike Allen [8 of 10], and Jay Princival scoring [7 of 10]. All of these ballers faced off in an attempt to be crowned the 2005 Marcus Garvey Free-Throw King. With an 8 of 10 score tie, it came down to a showdown between Lahh Woods and Mike Allen. After shooting 80% from the line, Mike Allen came back roaring, shooting [5 of 10] to set his mark in the tie-breaking round. Lahh Woods, with a milestone ahead of him, nervously missed his first free-throw! Determined not to let 15 PARK sweep the entire competition, Lahh showed his expertise by hitting his next 9 free-throws!! We want to thank all of the players, contributors, fans and DL staff for making the event safe, fun and victorious! See you again [Down Low] in the paint!!
